Catching Up With the Horses
Share
Last weekend we held a small equine therapy session at our partners ranch, Happy Rascal Ranch. Our first of the monthly peer support sessions with the horses was refreshing. We especially want to thank the volunteers who helped: Felisha, Clea, Sally, Sabrina & Mike, Wendy, Colt, Loren, Teresa and Mike. Among the attendees where a great group of kids for family day.

After arriving on the Pena Blanca property from our staging area in Bernalillo, we toured the ranch and got our service project: securing some loose fence and post, and running a length of horse fence.

The kids got to spend the time painting Eddie, a tall white horse who loved the kids. After the work phase we grounded ourselves and went through guided meditation before connecting with the horses. Most participants spent time grooming Bonito, Leo and Jake before wrapping for the day.
The session was a family version of our peer support for public servants. We hope to expand the program to offer more days and services as we receive the resources and funding needed.
Coming up next this month in the Heroes for Heroes calendar we invite you to a team hike in Placitas, and a peer support session with horses on the first Saturday of the month. RSVP on our website and check out our events, donate, or volunteer to help us stop public servant suicide and make our local heroes mentally well despite their sacrifices.
